Benn Olson brings a powerful blend of professional playing experience, player-first coaching, and community leadership to the BC Stars program.
Known for his calm presence, team-first mindset, and ability to connect with players at every level, Benn sets the tone for excellence on and off the ice.
Benn played defense at the highest levels of junior and professional hockey, including time with the Kamloops Blazers (WHL) and multiple seasons in the AHL and ECHL, where he was known for his physical presence and leadership in the locker room. After retiring from pro hockey, Benn shifted his focus to coaching and development—determined to help the next generation of players build not only their skills, but also their character and confidence.
Over the past decade, Benn has coached hundreds of players across the Lower Mainland through spring programs, development camps, and minor hockey. His calm, structured coaching style and focus on fundamentals have earned him the respect of both players and parents alike. Benn is passionate about creating a competitive but supportive environment—one where girls can develop into confident athletes and great teammates.
Off the ice, Benn serves as a firefighter with the Surrey Fire Department, bringing the same discipline and leadership to his work in the community as he does behind the bench. He and his wife are proud parents of two daughters, both active in minor hockey. As a hockey dad and coach, Benn brings a personal commitment to growing the game and helping players thrive in sport.
With BC Stars, Benn leads with integrity, experience, and a deep belief in what’s possible when young athletes are coached with care and purpose.
